Tibet to join Chengdu-Chongqing economic circle
14:45, January 07, 2009

"Since the Sichuan-Tibet Railway has been listed into the National Medium and Long-Term Railway Network Development Plan, which will greatly benefit the Tibet Autonomous Region (TAR) especially the Chamdo Prefecture, Nyingchi Prefecture and Lhasa, the program for Tibetan advancement is to be adjusted as well," said Pasang, executive director of TAR Railway Office.

Fu Yushou, vice director of TAR Railway Office, said that "Economy in TAR is expected to be involved into Chengdu-Chongqing Economic Circle with the operation of Sichuan-Tibet Railway. Meanwhile, Chengdu-Chongqing zone, known as the Land of Abundance, can also trade with South Asia via Tibet, which helps its entry into South Asian economic circle."

"The local tourism industry will be definitely boosted with the development of traffic convenience." said Tanor, inspector of TAR Tourism Bureau, "The growth rate of tourism in TAR will rise at least 20 percent after the operation of Sichuan-Tibet Railway for the increasing number of tourists keen on the natural landscape on the way. However, at present few self-driving tourists come to Tibet because of its terrain."
