Tibetan language widely used in TAR political affairs
16:45, January 13, 2009

The Tibetan language is widely used in the 2nd Session of 9th People's Political Consultative Conference of the Tibet Autonomous Region (TAR) which opened at 9:42 a.m., Jan. 12 in Lhasa, capital of TAR.

Tibetan delegates taking up 80 percent of the total delegate number declared no language barrier in the conference as two out of three agendas in the two-hour conference on the morning of Jan. 12 are delivered both in Tibetan.

Chime Tsepa from Chamdo Prefecture of Tibet expressed her welcome towards the using of Tibetan. "I am a delegate from the grass roots and I really have difficulty to understand the Chinese language especially some professional terms. And sometimes, I made mistakes when translating the terms into Tibetan for the masses though I have got the meaning. But, the documents and speeches in Tibetan are a piece of cake to me," said Chime Tsepa.

In fact, Tibetan is the mainly language for communication in Tibetan pasturing areas and many locals only master the Tibetan language, according to Chime Tsepa.

TAR has issued some rules to stipulate the usage of Tibetan language as well as the current characters of the country in some important conferences and meetings to ensure the study, using and development of Tibetan language.

Nowadays, Tibetan language is widely used in different circles of Tibet such as politics, economy and culture. And the Tibetan language is also developing quickly from the Tibetan TV program to daily teaching in Tibetan as well as the books and documents in Tibetan.
