16:49, January 13, 2009

The housing project which is practiced for the low-income rural Tibetan people was highlighted as the first proposal for the ongoing 2nd Session of 9th People's Political & Consultative Conference of the Tibet Autonomous Region (TAR).

"Housing project wins wide reputation among Tibetan people," said the proposer Puqiong, vice director of Tibet Development & Reform Department.

The proposal suggests more than 95 percent of rural Tibetans should be covered by the housing project during the "11th-Five-Year Plan". "Housing project and relative facilities have been greatly improved and the living and production conditions are getting better and better in last two years," said Puqiong, "I'm calling for a wider investment and faster progress as the project is widely applauded by Tibetans."

To date, 860,000 farmers and herders from 170,000 families have moved into the new houses, the government statistics show.
