Grobo Drolma: Tibetan orphan's university dream comes true
09:44, January 15, 2009

Grobo Drolma, an orphan in Mailing township of Nyingchi, passed the entrance exam of journalism in Tibet University. Her dream could come true, thanks to that 80s grandpa in Xiamen, who has been supporting and encouraging her for 6 years.

When Grobo Drolma was very young, her parents died of illness. Though the life with her grandmother was difficult and arduous, she was still optimistic and studying very hard without giving up her dream.

In July, 2001, Cao Qi, a retired cadre of National Security Organ in Xiamen, got to know Grobo Drolma's situation on a public welfare activity held by Xiamen Daily. He was touched by Grobo Drolma's strong will and self-improvement spirit.

After discussing with his wife, Cao expressed that he would like to sponsor Grobo Drolma not only to finish compulsory education, but also to graduate from university.

Grobo Drolma and Cao Qi never met but kept in touch with each other by writing letters. Each semester Grobo Drolma always wrote at least three letters to talk about daily life, study and share the sorrows and happiness with Cao.

And Cao Qi always provided for his helps as possible as he can. When Grobo Drolma told him the reference books were limited in Tibet, Cao bought a set of reference books for college entrance exam immediately and then mailed to her. Besides, Cao also sent medicines for Grobo Drolma's grandmother for curing cataract.

Their feelings go deeper and deeper with the long-term communication by letters. Grobo Drolma is happy to have a grandfather from Han ethnic group, and Cao Qi is so proud of having such a good granddaughter from Tibet.
