It is still bitter when Migmar Dondrup, who was once a serf, is recalling his miserable life under the society of feudal serfdom.

Huddled in a dark and dank adobe hovel with his family members, Migmar Dondrup, now 75 years old, has served as Nangsan (a kind of serf in old Tibet, or called house slave) for 11 years, with no freedom and suffered from starvation.

But now, he is able to live happily in a two-floor house covering more than 400 square meters, thanks to the implement of the democratic reform.

In 1959, when the democratic reform was introduced, millions of serfs and slaves were freed and their misery was thus ended.
