10:39, April 10, 2009

An opening ceremony for the exhibition titled "Democratic Reform in the Tibet for 50 years" sponsored by MFAO was held in Hongkong on April 9, presided by Song Ronghua, a special from MFAP with Hongkong government officials, media reporters, teachers and students in attendance.

There are more than 70 photos and documents with both Chinese and English introductions on display demonstrating the miserable life of Tibetans under the brutal feudal serfdom system in old Tibet, and also the remarkable achievements Tibet has made over the last 50 years.

The exhibition has five parts: the peaceful liberation of Tibet, the crack-down on the Armed Rebellion, the Democratic Reform in Tibet, half a century of conflict between reunification and separation, progress and regress, and social and economic development and achievements in human rights. Besides, some history documentaries such as "Tibet's past" and "The truth of 3.14 riots" are on show at the exhibition site.

Li Jun, a student from Hong Kong Shue Yan University said:"In the past, we knew little about Tibet. However, this exhibition shows us the Tibet's history, current situation, especially the status changes of Tibetan women before and after the democratic reform. Now we have deeper understanding about true Tibet."

Reporters, teachers and students are listening to the guide introducing photos at an exhibition marking the 50th anniversary of the Democratic Reform in Tibet, photo from Xinhua, April 9.
