Tibet enters tourism peak season
13:31, April 15, 2009

As the weather improves, tourism in Tibet shows signs of a clear rise.

Since mid-April, over 100 overseas tour groups with around 900 people have visited the Tibet Autonomous Region every day, with a growth rate of over 20 percent day-on-day, according to statistics.

The average number of domestic tour groups to Tibet reached about 200, with more than 1,000 people, also exhibiting a growth rate of over 20 percent day-on-day.

The occupancy rate for every major hotel is also increasing gradually, and all tourist destinations have started to become busy.

All sectors related to tourism are also showing signs of increased business.

Ms. Wang, an employee at the Tibet Railway International Tour Co. said that, "recently we have received so many orders that we are almost unable to take breaks at the office."

To date, every tourist spot in Tibet has been fully prepared to meet the tourism peak season.

The number of foreign and domestic tourists that Tibet will receive in 2009 is expected to exceed three million, with a total of over 3.46 billion yuan in tourism revenue.

Additionally, entrance ticket prices to the autonomous region's tourist spots will generally remain unchanged from last year, and some scenic spots even offer discounted ticket prices to Tibetan people.
