The government of Chamdo Prefecture, eastern Tibet, registered a tax revenue of 33,75 million yuan RMB in the first quarter of 2009, 22.1 percent more than that of the same period last year.

The revenue from the wholesale and retail industries constitutes bulk of the whole amount and hits 9.2 million yuan RMB, 440 million more than in the same period in 2008.

According to the Chamdo Prefectural Bureau of Statistics, the total retail sales of consumer goods in the first two months of 2009 amounted to 219,16 million yuan, up 22 percent from the corresponding period last year.

Another contributor to the prefecture's tax revenue is investment introduced by local enterprises from other parts of China. For example, three companies, namely Hongda, Jiujiu and Rongheng, paid 3.32 million in taxes, 36 percent of the total tax revenue from the wholesale and retail industries.
