Tibet Autonomous Region will hold its first Tourist Souvenir Contest later this year, according to the regional Tourism Bureau Monday.
The application for the event runs from April 10 to May 25, said the Organizing Committee for the contest.

Shopping consumption accounts for 26.9 percent of the total spending in Tibet's tourism. However, with rough workmanship and indistinct speciality, Tibet's tourist souvenirs are produced mainly in family workshops, without gearing to the market.

(Xinhua Photo) Focusing on exploring tourist commodity resources and cultivating competitive tourist culture, this contest will vividly display the Tibetan ethnic culture and expand the regional tourist shopping market, said a leading official of the bureau.
The winners in the contest will be rewarded 2,000 yuan to 20,000 yuan each. The winning works will be recommended to the manufacturers, scenic spots and tourist souvenir stores.
