GDP of Tibet's Chamdo Prefecture up 15% in Q1

The gross domestic product of Chamdo Prefecture, eastern Tibet, reached 714 million yuan RMB in the first quarter, a year-on-year increase of 15 percent, according to government statistics.

The Chamdo Prefectural Development and Reform Commission said that of the figure, the output value of the primary, secondary and tertiary industries hit 114, 106 and 494 million yuan RMB respectively, a year-on-year increase of four percent, 13 percent and 18 percent.

The per-capita net income of farmers and herders reached 660 yuan RMB, whereas the disposable income of urban residents came to 2,759 yuan RMB, up 9.5 percent from the same period last year.

So far this year, Chamdo Prefecture has tried to consolidate its agriculture and animal husbandry, with its total output value totaling 163 million yuan RMB, an increase of 7.3 percent from the same period in 2008. In addition, the total number of livestock stood at 3.59 million at the end of the first quarter.

Spurred by the planned projects during the 11th Five-Year Plan period and the celebration of the 60th anniversary of the liberation of Chamdo Prefecture, investment in fixed assets is projected to reach 4.5 billion yuan RMB this year, with 3.3 billion yuan RMB from the central government, up 46 percent year on year.

At the end of March, 71 projects were launched or resumed, with a total investment of 230 million yuan RMB. Meanwhile, the total investment in infrastructure reached 84.84 million yuan RMB.

By now the combined output value of 62 industries at or above the township level has surged 313 percent from the same period in 2008, to 55.46 million yuan RMB.
