Tibet to hold 4th Int'l Halfway Marathon Tournament in August

Tibet's capital of Lhasa will hold the fourth International Halfway Marathon Challenge Tournament on Aug. 22, which is during the Shoton Festival (yogurt banquet in the Tibetan language). 

Launched in 2004, the competition will be held in Lhasa, which is known to be at the highest altitude of over 3,000 m above sea level in the world.

In 2006, the first three in both men and women half events were all Tibetans.

This year, with a whole racetrack of 21.09 km, it will begin at 9:00 a.m. on the square in front of the Potala Palace, by the way of some scenic spots like the Barkhor Street and the Norbu Lingka, the residence of the Dalai Lama.

The Organizing Committee has also arranged short distance events of 10 km and 5 km for male and female participants.

Participants over the age of 18 are entitled to join in the half marathon and those over 15 can take part in the mini events: 10 km and 5 km.
