Tibet Museum named national patriotism education demonstration base

Tibet Museum was enlisted as one of the fourth batch of national patriotism education demonstration bases, according to the Publicity Department of the Communist Party of China Central Committee.

Opened in Lhsas in 1991, Tibet Museum is the first modern museum in the southwest China's region. By now, it has received 58,000 teenagers for free and organized more than 30 patriotism education events.

Meanwhile, the museum helped Tibet University and Tibet College of Nationalities set up education practice bases, providing venues for college students to receive social education and further study.

National patriotism education demonstration bases should be among the first of patriotism education demonstration bases to open to the public for free, according to a notice released by the Publicity Department of the CPC Central Committee, the Ministry of Finance, the Minstry of Culture and the National Cultural Relics Bureau.

In 2008, 147 of the 269 national patriotism education demonstration bases were opened free of charge.

In 2009, all patriotism education demonstration bases should be free of charge except for bases of historical and cultural relics and sites, said the notice.

Tibet Museum has undertaken a series measures to open to the public for free since the end of last year, including the renovation of its interior from last October.
