(Xinhua Photo) Tibet has been carrying out a low-rent housing project in its 71 counties in 2009 by planning to build 4,236 apartments with a total floor space of 254,200 sq. m.
According to the Tibet Regional Department of Construction, the project will cost 435 million yuan, of which 80 million yuan will come from the central government, 289 million yuan from the regional government, and 66 million yuan from prefectural and municipal governments.
By the end of last month, construction of low-rent houses had started in 50 counties, including the seven ones administered by Lhasa City. By the end of this year, the project will have been finished in all counties, with all completed apartments put to use.
To date, more than 1,000 households of 4,000 people are dwelling in low-rent apartments all over Tibet, solving the housing problem for the lowest-income families in most cities and towns.
Families with an annual income of less than 20,000 yuan are entitled to dwell in low-rent apartments, according to the requirements for those intending to apply for a low-rent apartment as announced by the TAR Construction Department recently.
