Tibet steps up construction of hydropower stations

Photo taken on June 7, 2009, shows the modern control room of the Xueka Hydropower Station in Nyingchi Prefecture, southeastern Tibet. The hydropower station is located at the middle reach of the Ba River in Gongbo'gyamda County, Nyingchi Prefecture, southeastern Tibet. It is one of Tibet's priority projects during the 11th-Five Year Plan period at a cost of 723 million yuan RMB, with an installed generation capacity of 40,000 kw. By now, Tibet has set up four regional power grids, namely the Central Tibet Grid (covering Lhasa, Xigaze, Shannan and Nagqu), Nyingchi Grid, Chamdo Grid and Shiquan River Grid. By the end of 2008, the total installed generation capacity in Tibet had reached 716,000 kw.(Xinhua Photo)

The hydropower station is located on a tributary of the Niyang River. As one of Tibet's priority projects during the 11th-Five Year Plan period, the station was started construction in October 2007 at a cost of 1.28 billion yuan RMB, and is expected to generate power at the end of 2010.
