Pet industry in Lhasa, capital of the Tibet Autonomous Region, has been flourishing as more citizens raise pet dogs and generously raise them up with their money.

Experts believe that the growing number of people engaged in pet industry has much to do with the increasing disposable income of local dwellers in the region.

In 2008, the average disposable income of urban residents in Tibet hit 12,482 yuan per capita, with a growth of 12.1 percent over the previous year.

Grandma Drolma Dbyangscan, 61, spent 250 yuan on a black suit for her dog "Lhasa Apso." Other Tibetans like Drolma are also free with money to buy their pets shampoos, electric shearers, puppy toys and puppy teething rings.

Han Jinru, a businessman from Northeastern China, is running a store in Lhasa, specializing in pet illness treatment, pet grooming, and sales of pet supplies like food, dress, and kennels.

Tibetans have a long history to raise pet dogs. Among some 180 breeds of pet dogs globally, five are from Tibet, including the smallest Mini-dog and the largest Tibetan Mastiff.
