Scores for the 2009 national college entrance examination in the Tibet Autonomous Region were officially released on June 25. Reporters learned from the Tibet Education Examination Institute that a total of 17,849 students in Tibet took the national college entrance examination in 2009. Of these, around 85 percent were from ethnic minorities. The four highest scores have already been disclosed, and are all lower than last year's.
According to analysis, one reason for the lower scores is that the exam was more difficult. In 2008, 67 students in Tibet achieved a total score of over 600 in the examination. In 2008, for those majoring in liberal arts, the highest score among ethnic minorities was 562 and Han students 631. For those majoring in sciences, the highest score among ethnic minorities was 605 and Han students 685.
A third grade teacher working in a secondary school in Lhasa told reporters that one reason this year's lower scores is a more difficult examination and students generally agreed that the examination was harder than expected.
