Miya: Lhasa's "godfather of beauty pageants"

At the final of this year's 19th "Jinlongquan" Super Model of the World Cosmos Pageant, 15-year-old Zou Linying from Chengdu, a 176 cm tall girl, took the crown worth millions of yuan after defeating over 40 other contestants in four rounds of competitions. Behind her glory are those who have worked hard for her success, in particular a man named Miya.

Working as an organizer

In 2000 Miya, who had been engaged in the electronics industry, had the opportunity to meet an influential figure from the entertainment industry. Believing that show business would be fun, and thinking that there might be space for him in the industry, Miya vowed to build his own "entertainment empire."

In 2002, Miya successfully organized the China West Model contest as a core member. This significantly boosted his confidence and he began to plan and organize many more activities in 2003, including the first China West Automobile Festival, China West Model contest and China Spring Sugar and Wine Fair, as well as other large-scale cultural activities. All of these events were runaway successes. In the ensuing years, Miya organized the China West Automobile Festival and the China West Model. He has successfully established his position in western China's beauty pageant industry. In recent years, Miya has begun to participate in international beauty pageants including Miss International, Miss Asia, Miss Tourism Queen International, Miss World and Super Model of the World.

Working as a talent-spotter

Due to his dedication to beauty pageants, Miya is known as the "godfather of beauty pageants" in the industry and by the media. He said that he is not much like a "godfather" however. He felt that his work was rough compared to large-scale beauty pageants held by some media and those held abroad. Miya believes that western China is a source of creativity and gifted people. It has the world's most beautiful natural landscapes, numerous cultural heritage sites and talent, but it did not have a true leader to guide the beauty.

Therefore in 2006, Miya decided to build a "beauty economy" and established "Topone" after consulting many friends in the industry. He compares "Topone" to a field: he is the farmer and talented individuals outside the entertainment industry are seedlings. He cultivates these seedlings and explores their potential. To put it simply, Miya is a talent-spotter who discovers future superstars.

Miya discovered one such seedling at the China West Topone Model competition in 2007 with his professional talent-spotting insight. The model was Zou Linying, a 13-year-old girl at that time. Miya saw Zou's star potential when he watched her standing on the T-stage for the first time. Just as expected, this Cinderella won the Super Model of the World Cosmos Pageant and received a reward worth millions of yuan after two years of transformation. She has since become an international supermodel.

Working as a director

Miya once thought that the job of a director was to sit in a chair under a sun umbrella and order others around with a loudspeaker. This kind of power and prestige has always been something he dreamed of. However, when he later became a director himself, he realized that a director is the soul of the cast and crew and must be omnipotent. When other members are having a rest, the director cannot. When it comes to a beauty pageant, the director must manage everything in person, from planning to on-site organization. An error of any kind may affect the perfection of the entire event.
