From Feb. 1, 2008, taxi drivers in Lhasa began to use meters for charge. (tibet.cn Photo)Tibet's capital of Lhasa inaugurated recently the first batch of 116 taxies made by China Motor and plans to upgrade all the in-service taxies in this city within five years, Tibet Business Newspaper reported Thursday.
Lhasa has a total of 1,160 taxies, with some of them being in poor conditions due to lack of maintenance and heavy use. "We need to replace old cabs as soon as possible," said Song Shiliang, in charge of Lhasa's urban traffic control.
"The taxi made by China Motor has more room and is more comfortable to ride," Chang Yanhong, a driver, said.
