Tibetan herders get 1-mln-yuan compensation in agricultural insurance

On July 4, staff from the Tibet Branch of the People's Insurance Company (Group) of China pay compensation to farmers and herdsmen who suffered losses from rain and snow in May this year in Gampa County, southeastern Tibet's Xigaze Prefecture. From May 25 to 27, Gampa County suffered rain and snow for the first time in early summer in nearly two decades, with about 9,816 livestock dead of cold weather. The Tibet Branch of the People's Insurance Company (Group) of China investigated into the disaster-caused losses and paid 1.04 million yuan in compensation to farmers and herdsmen. Since Tibet tried out pilot policy-oriented insurance for agriculture in 2006, 30 counties have been experimenting with the new move. (Xinhua Photo)
