China allocates 5.98 million on environment of Mt. Qomolangma Nature Reserve

The China Meteorological Administration has approved and initiated a project of building system of environmental monitoring and mountaineering and tourism services on the Mt. Qomolangma Nature Reserve, according to the Scientific and Research Center of Tibet Meteorological Administration.

The project with a total investment of 5.98 million yuan plans to set up a two-floor unwatched automatic station equipped with radiation observation system at the Rongbo Glacier area, core area of Mt. Qomolangma Nature Reserve.

With the project, the Rongbo Automatic Station and Tingri Meteorological Station will be added a one-floor observation tower with 20.5 meters and a radiation observation system.

Monitoring on changes of firn, glacier, climate, surface coverage, atmosphere composition, gradient of atmospheric element, hydrological process and water resources, will be conducted with the launching of the project.
