Tibet Lightning Protection Center warns of thunderstorms through text messages, newspapers

According to the lightning protection center of the Tibet Autonomous Region, the lightning protection service platform in the region has now been essentially completed, allowing residents to find out the time and place of thunderstorms in advance.

According to staff at the lightning protection center, due to complex geological and topographical conditions and a versatile climate, there are more thunderstorm activities in the region compared to other regions of similar latitude. After the lightning protection service platform is completed, its 18 key lightning localizers will be distributed to six regions and cities except Ngari to receive data about the location, strength and time of lightning. Besides buildings for meteorological disaster prevention and mitigation, additional hardware facilities have also been deployed in seven regions and cities, including lightning detection devices and vehicles. In respect of software facilities, a lightning detection service platform will begin operation. Upon its completion, office automation will be realized. The next step is for the lightning protection center to take measures to inform people as to when and where thunder strokes will take place, through text messages and newspaper updates.
