Panchen Lama gives blessings

The 11th Panchen Lama has met with hundreds of religious representatives in Lhasa, the capital of the Tibet Autonomous Region.

Delegates from the China Buddhist Association's Tibetan Branch and various temples in Tibet paid homage and presented hada, the ceremonial silk scarves used by Tibetans for blessings, to the Panchen Lama.

Afterwards, the Panchen Lama gave the monks a traditional blessing.

The Panchen Lama said he hoped Tibetan Buddhism will benefit people and contribute to the prosperity and stability of the country.

Nieda, President of China Buddhist Association's Tibetan Branch, said, "The Panchen Lama is only 19 years old, but he is an outstanding student of Buddhism. He is a real master in Tibetan Buddhism."

Zhukang Tubdain Kaizhub, vice president of the China Buddhist Association, said, "The Panchen Lama told us to love our country and our religion, manage the temple well and improve our studies of the sutras, and to meet the needs of believers. I promise to accomplish these things."

In the courtyard, more than 400 hundred of pilgrims queued to receive the Panchen Lama's blessing.

Qiaoga, said, "I am very happy and excited. The Party's religious polices are good."

The Panchen Lama was selected as a living Buddha 14 years ago when he was 5 years old. Since then, he has held religious ceremonies in various places, bringing blessings to thousands of people.
