On August 22, the Tibet Autonomous Region held a launch ceremony for the establishment of a pilot grassland ecological protection award system project.
With the largest area and most varieties of grassland in all China's provinces, Tibet will take the lead in China, establishing a grassland ecological protection award system.
According to an approval from the Ministry of Finance and the Ministry of Agriculture on the 2009 implementation plan for the pilot project to establish a grassland ecological protection award system in the Tibet Autonomous Region, the award system will be set up in Nyainrong, Amdo and Baingoin counties in Nagqu Prefecture, Coqen County in Ngari Prefecture and Zhongba County in Shigatse Prefecture. The plan mainly involves rewarding mechanisms to determine the herd to pasture ratio, allocate subsidies to promote firewood replacement, give livestock electronic ear tags and set up a grassland ecological monitoring system.
