(Xinhua Photo)The Tibet Autonomous Regional Government has instituted a regulatory system for the social insurance fund, and has redoubled its efforts to improve the social security system, according to Tibet Daily.
In the first half of 2009, 704,900 people joined the social security program all over the region. Of these people, 86,000 were involved in the basic old-age pension insurance system, and 217,000 in the basic medical insurance system for urban workers and staff members.
A total of 130,500 people were involved the basic medical insurance for urban residents, 59,700 in unemployment insurance, and 125,700 in maternity insurance.
Last June, a special panel to oversee the social security fund was set up to prevent the risks the fund might involve. By the end of June, a total of 671 million yuan RMB of social insurance had been collected all over the region.
