(Xinhua Photo)The Qinghai-Tibet Railway has been operating smoothly despite the 6.4-magnitude earthquake that jolted the Dachaidan District in Haixi Mongolian-Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture, Qinghai Province, last Friday.
By 5:00 a.m. on August 31, 2,896 aftershocks had occurred in the area, including five measured between 4.0 and 4.9 degrees on the Richter scale, three measured above 5.0 degrees on the Richiter scale, according to the Qinghai Provincial Seismological Network.
The 6.4-magnitude quake and the following aftershocks have not affected the operation of the Qinghai-Tibet Railway at all, according to the Qinghai-Tibet Railway Company.
A leading official of the company said that the railway has withstood the earthquake that struck Haixi last Friday.
The company has dispatched special personnel to step up inspection work along the railway section in the quake-hit area, in an effort to ensure safe operation of the Qinghai-Tibet Railway.
After the 6.4-magnitude earthquake occurred, the China Earthquake Administration and government departments concerned of Qinghai Province organized five teams to direct the relief work. No casualties or property losses were reported.
