"Beautiful, excellent and up-and-up, most of them said such words while listening to my introduction," said Lu in a dark-red Tibetan robe, referring to some 120 foreign diplomats who visited the fair at the Cultural Palace of Nationalities.
Pictures, video clips, books, solar panels and model of wind turbines, as well as piles of economic figures were presented at the exhibition that showcases the achievements made in China's five autonomous regions of Inner Mongolia, Tibet, Xinjiang Uygur, Ningxia Hui and Guangxi Zhuang over the last six decades.
"China's development cannot be described by words, and the fast development of Guangxi also offered great opportunities for Vietnam," said Nguyen Vinh Quang, minister of the Vietnamese embassy in China.
Guangxi, which neighbors Vietnam, has played a leading role in the economic cooperation between China and the Association of Southeast Asian Nations that also includes Vietnam.
"We could expand cooperation on infrastructure and strive for acloser economic and trade relationship in this region," he said.
"There's only change, everything is different," said Krzysztof Stronczynski, minister counsellor of the Polish embassy in China, who first came to the country in the 1970s.
He condemned the riot in Xinjiang's capital of Urumqi on July 5,which left nearly 200 people dead.
"In every country, such kind of violence should be condemned," he said. He expected local people in Xinjiang to live in peace and harmony again.
At the Inner Mongolian hall, Vanuatu Ambassador to China Jimmy Willie T. Rarua and her wife were attracted by a show of folk songs and music instruments, pledging to boost cooperation with China in agricultural and tourism sectors.
"China's mechanism of autonomous regions allows the local people to have more say and a greater degree of involvement in local development," said Joern Geisselmann, a United Nations program coordinator.
Geisselmann's program was aimed at protecting traditional culture of Chinese ethnic groups and has been carried out in Yunnan, Guizhou, Qinghai and Tibet, where dozens of ethnic groups live.
"It's a joint program between the United Nations and the Chinese government. The Chinese central and local authorities were very supportive," he said.
