The central government will allocate 200 million yuan of special fund to establish experimental units encouraging grassland protection in 7 counties of the Tibet Autonomous Region, sources from the financial departments of Tibet.
The premium will be sent to households directly by the local financial department.
Boasting 1.23 billion mu of natural grasslands, Tibet has the largest acreage of grasslands with the most types around China as its grassland occupies 68% of the whole region.
Located in the inland plateau, Tibet has fragile ecology and the ecological environment of its grasslands is worsening, which will influence the economy of Tibet's rural areas. So protecting grasslands in Tibet is urgent.
(1 acre equals about 15 mu; 1 USD equals about 6.83 yuan.)
