Reporters recently learned from Tibet's financial departments that the Ministry of Finance has allocated 200 million yuan of special funds to support the establishment of pilot grassland protection reward systems in five pilot counties and two comparison counties in Tibet. The financial rewards will be directly issued to households by local financial departments.
Tibet has 1.23 billion mu of natural grasslands, accounting for 68 percent of its total area. The region has the largest grassland area and the most varieties of grasslands in China. However, as the Tibetan Plateau is located inland, it is ecologically fragile. Tibet's grassland environment is facing ecological deterioration, which has a direct impact on the regional animal husbandry and economic and social development of the pasture region.
