Lhasa sees 85% survival rate of forest in drought year

The survival rate of new forest in Lhasa hits above 85 per cent in drought year as the effective measures were taken to cope with the drought in 2009.

Lhasa Forestry Bureau irrigated the new forest with water from ditches, streams and pipes in order to reduce the death rate as the severe drought has great impact on the survival rate of new forest, according to Dradul, head of Lhasa Forestry Bureau.

The Financial Department of Tibet has specially allocated 2.3 million yuan as fund to fight against drought, the severest one in 30 years in Tibet.
