Southwest China's Sichuan Province had allocated 31.91 million yuan by the end of September as tuition and subsidies for 12,000 students from its Tibetan-inhabited areas.

These students will study in secondary vocational or technical schools in other parts of Sichuan, according to the Sichuan Provincial Finance Department.

In September, a project was launched to enable annually 10,000 students from its Tibetan-inhabited areas to receive free secondary vocational and technical education in Sichuan cities.

The students benefiting from the project do not have to pay an annual tuition of 2,000 yuan (242 U.S. dollars) and will be given an annual subsidy of 3,000 yuan each in the first two years.

In the third year, a student will get a subsidy of 1,500 yuan. Another 1,500 yuan will be offered to each as the fees for transportation, boarding and textbooks.

Those students will be also covered by local basic medical insurance for urban residents.

As a typical multi-ethnic province, Sichuan has the nation's second largest Tibetan-inhabited area.
