Tibet trains 17,000 farmers, herders

Tibet Autonomous Region held training courses for 17,000 farmers and herders in the first half of 2009, according to Tibet Daily.

As a result, 1,840 of the trainees acquired new farming and herding techniques, 1,263 became professionals technians, 42 associations of various kinds were established, and 12 technology-oriented businesses were set up.

In 2008 and in the first half of 2009, 29 science and technology service agencies held 98 training courses, covering crop and forage planting, livestock and poultry breeding, sewing, auto repair, construction, cooking, folk arts and handicrafts, health care, catering, housekeeping, security, and hotel management.

The courses were attended by 4,512 people, 625 of whom were employed shortly after graduation.
