British Foreign Minster Lewis praised China's effective efforts to boost the economic growth of Tibet Autonomous Region during an interview with Phoenix TV recently.
Minister Ivan Lewis visited Tibet in September as part of a fact-finding mission to China, the first such trip by a British minister.
"I feel very proud as the first British minister to visit Tibet. The trip is a positive experience. China's efforts to boost the region's economic growth are worth praising," Ivan Lewis said.
During his visit, Lewis explored at first hand the political, economic, social and cultural situation of Tibet.
Lewis lauded effective treasures from the Chinese Central Government to accelerate Tibet's economy and appealed the Chinese Central Government to invite more western officials to Tibet.
"Officials like me, foreign journalists or ordinary people will understand a real Tibet, find out the true and challenges after visiting the region personally."
British critics commented Lewis's trip indicated that British has recognized the unification of Chinese territory.
Lewis said Tibet is an inseparable part of China and China must talk with representatives from the Dalai Lama.
