New rock paintings of Tubo period discovered in Damxung, Tibet

Some new rock paintings from Tubo period were discovered in Damxung County of central Tibet during the third national cultural relics general survey, sources from Lhasa Cultural Relics Bureau.

Most of the discovered rock paintings are painted with red dyestuff and the paintings are mainly about yaks, horses, sheep, riders, warriors, wizards, trees, sun, towers, sutra streamers, arrows and some other religious signs.

Experts hold that these 20 rock paintings are precious materials for doing research on the social economy, culture, religion development and ancient art of the Tubo period.

From September 7 to October 4, the third national cultural relics general survey has covered about 12,000 square kilometers in Damxung County, discovering some 60 unmovable cultural relics, re-checking 18 sites and rooting out 42 new cultural relics sites.

Furthermore, two more graveyards, Qudongjuelangkang and Niedong were also discovered.
