Lhasa reports 8.8 bln yuan in fixed-asset investment in first 3Qs

Lhasa, capital of Tibet, reported 8.89 billion yuan (1.3 mln U.S.dollars) in fixed-asset investment in the first nine months of this year, up 27.19 percent year on year, according to local statistic authorities.

From January to September, Lhasa's primary industry made an investment of 423 million yuan, a 55.51 percent rise over the same period in 2008. The secondary industry recorded 1.19 billion yuan in investment, up 83.64 percent, and the tertiary industry registered an investment of 3.92 million yuan, a 53.94 percent increase.

Meanwhile, the city accelerated construction of its infrastructure. With a total investment of 266 million yuan, the project to build Lhasa into a national ecological garden-like city made an investment of 82.8 million yuan during the first nine months. The project, with the total investment of 117 million yuan, went smoothly in upgrading the Linkuo East Road, Deji South Road and Liu East Road.

Moreover, the funding for construction of 12 parks and 50 bus stops in Lhasa totaled 24.02 million yuan.

With rapid economic and social development, Lhasa speeded up construction of infrastructure for its educational establishments and monasteries. Dormitories for teachers of Lhsas No. 1 Middle School and classrooms for 17 township-level primary schools were built at a total cost of 31.69 million yuan.

With the financing reaching 114 million yuan, the renovation of the Jokhang Temple, Drepung Monastery and dilapidated halls in the Geri Monastery is proceeding smoothly.
