Reservoir of Yellow River in NW China well protected
14:30, October 26, 2009

The wetland serves as a major zone for water supplement and water storage in the upstream area of the Yellow River, China's second longest river.

As a result of water loss, soil erosion, and desertification, the wetland once shrank to 300,000 ha at the end of last century from 400,000 ha in the 1970s. To save the "impounding reservoir" of the Yellow River, the central and local governments have spared no efforts to restore ecological environment in this area, effectively curbing the shrinkage of the wetland.
