It is the first time that such workers are chosen as model workers in Tibet for their contributions to the region's development in different fields. A record number of 236 people were awarded at the meeting, namely, 154 model workers and 82 advanced workers.
Norbu from Daruo Village, Ruyi Township, Chamdu County in Chamdo Prefecture, led his fellow villagers onto the path of prosperity. As a result, the per-capita annual income of the farmers and herders in his village hit 7,666.24 yuan RMB.
Baima Norbu, another farmer from the Shengge Township, Lhozha County, Shannan Prefecture, undertook to provide tourism services and hired 55 job-seeking young people in his village to work for him. Through the years, 80 poor families have received his help and assistance.
Farmer Gangqiong from Bianlin Township, Linzhou County, Lhasa, never left his fellow villagers behind after becoming better off. He financed construction of roads, irrigation ditches and schools for his townspeople.
