The Lhasa Economic and Technological Development Zone in Doilungdeqen County has become the city's new economic growth engine after eight years of development.
Approved by the State Council (China's Cabinet), the zone was inaugurated on September 19, 2001, as the only national-level one of its kind in Tibet, according to the Management Committee of the development zone.

(Photo: chinatibetnews.com)The zone currently has 161 enterprises with a total registered capital of two billion yuan RMB (292 million U.S. dollars).
Of the total, 45 enterprises registered earlier this year with a total registered capital of 550 million yuan RMB (80.5 million dollars).
The zone is projected to collect 350 million yuan RMB (51 million dollars) in taxes this year, up 75 percent year on year.
