Cesare Romiti, president of the Italy-China Foundation, praised the Chinese government for its effort for the development of Tibet, according to an interview article carried in the Italian Corriere Della Sera Tuesday.
Romiti said in the interview that the two-day Second Forum on the Development of China's Tibet" provided an exchange platform for the development and cooperation in Tibet's various aspects. At the forum, attendees from all walks of life emphasized what the Chinese government had made for Tibet's advancement, he added.

(Xinhua Photo) He said that during the past decades, China's Central Government has spent a total 201.9 billion yuan (24.43 billion U.S. dollars) in financial transfer payments to Tibet. Three fourths of the amount had been transferred in recent eight years.
Meanwhile, the Chinese government has also been devoted to various undertakings in this region, such as cutting the ratio of illiteracy in Tibet. He also hailed the Qinghai-Tibet Railway built by the Chinese Central Government as a "technological treasure."
Romiti pointed out that the so-called "Tibet Issue" should not have existed in the world today because China has the sovereignty over Tibet and Tibet is an inseparable part of China.
The Chinese Government's ethnic policies on Tibet have promoted the region's growth and development. For instance, Tibet now has 1,700 Tibetan Buddhist monasteries, where religious followers can fully enjoy the right to religious belief.
Romiti indicated that he thinks that the Dalai Lama has been unaware of what he should do; his emerging role alternates between religious and political figure. His action has not shown any intention of promoting peaceful co-existence among all ethnic groups in Tibet.
