The Chinese Ministry of Science and Technology has sent 1,112 technicians to Tibet's rural areas since the pilot project to send techinians to spread techniques was launched in 2005, according to Tibet Daily.
The technicians brought new species and techniques to Tibet's rural areas, and helped farmers and herders plant pollution-free vegetables and fruits and build production bases.
Their work has changed the region's traditional agricultural and animal husbandry structure, and increased the income of farmers and herders with new techniques.
Meanwhile, the technicians compiled training materials according to local conditions and the actual needs of local residents. They held training courses on scientific breeding, vegetable planting, crop pest control and prevention, field management of crops, and the pesticide application.
Zhang Baosheng, 55, is one of such "technique deliverers" in Tibet Autonomous Region, and undertakes the task to teach rural Tibetans the fruit grafting and planting techniques.
Zhang couldn't remember how many fruit trees he had grafted on. In Zhenba Village, Nyingchi Prefecture alone, he has made grafts for 80 percent of the farmers. He also paid return visits to trees he had engrafted and taught the farmers how to take care of the trees.
"It is necessary for me to hold a training course for 100 farmers to spread fruit grafting and planting techniques," he said.
