China's Tibetology Press on Saturday presented a set of the new edition of "Chinese Tripitaka" as a gift to the Ethnographic Museum of the University of Zurich.
Attending the presenting ceremony were Swiss Tibetologists, scholars, researchers and Chinese officials from the Chinese Embassy in Switzerland.
The publication of the "Chinese Tripitaka" is a major research project undertaken by China's Tibetology Research Center and 1,000 sets of the classics have been published, said Zhou Hua, director of the publishing house affiliated to the research center.
It is the first time that China presented a whole set of the Buddhist classics to an overseas museum.
The publication of the works is regarded as a significant project to inherit and promote Tibet's traditional culture, he explained, adding that it will also play a major role in protecting and developing Tibetan Buddhism and improving research into Tibetology.
Mareile Flitsch, curator of the museum, said the museum and China's Tibetology Research Center and China's Tibetology Press have agreed to cooperate in research and publication on Tibetology. Presenting the classics marked the beginning of such cooperation.
The museum will display the "Chinese Tripitaka" and introduce its history, origin, different editions and its role in the world.
Another Tibetologist of the university expressed the hope that the new edition of high value will bring knowledge and wisdom to the museum's visitors.
