(CRI online Photo)Tibet started winter recruitment for the People's Liberation Army, China's armed forces, on Sunday, attracting a large number of college graduates on the first day, according to the Tibet Recruiting Office.
The recruitment will wind up at the end of this month, with the registration time running from November 1 till 7.
At the Lhasa Recruiting Office, 13 young people applied to join the PLA in one hour, including five college students.
A senior student from Tibet University said, "Many students have been impassioned by PLA's majestic performance in the military parade held in celebration of the National Day.
Moreover, the Central Government has introduced many preferential policies for college candidates to join the army. So, I want to temper myself in the big school of the PLA."
For instance, college candidates will be given a 6,000-yuan compensation annually for their tuitions or educational loans. Priority will be given to those college students-turned-soldiers in getting promotion to low-ranking officers and getting admitted into military academies.
Since October 25, the Tibet Recruiting Office has been publicizing the recruitment registration, application and policies in Lhasa and other six prefectures via media, brochures and mobile phone short messages.
