An unmanned automatic weather station in Palbar County, Chamdo Prefecture, eastern Tibet, has recently been put into use, according to Tibet's Meteorological Bureau.
Construction of such stations in other parts of the prefecture is going on smoothly, and all counties under the jurisdiction of Chamdo will have been equipped with weather stations by the yearend.
Palbar, located in the western part of Chamdo and 490 km away from Chamdo City, is the remotest county in the prefecture.
Due to the absence of weather stations, the county had to rely on neighboring Lhorong and Biru counties for meteorological data.
The newly-built station is expected to provide latest information for local agriculture and animal husbandry, and for local leadership to make policy decisions on disaster prevention and reduction, thus promoting local social and economic development.
