Digital films accessible to Tibetans in Sichuan
10:57, November 04, 2009

The State Administration of Radio, Film and Television has been providing film shows to the residents in Garze Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture, Sichuan Province since Oct. 2006, according to Sichuan Daily.

A local herder named Axia said in excitement after watching a digital film "Prince of the Himalayas", "The picture is much clearer. " Axia, 46, lives in a village in Kangding County, Garze Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture.

In 2008 alone, more than 20,000 film shows were held for 1.72 million people in the prefecture.

Along with the launch of the "rural digital film projection project", the prefectural government has helped equip 352 townships and towns with "mobile culture promotion service packs."

Now with the service packs, which include motorcycles, electric generators, and film projectors, projectionists can hold film shows for farmers and herders living in remote rural mountainous areas.
