Nyenchen Tonglha Mountain-Namtso Lake The Nyenchen Tonglha Mountains is one of the four well-known holy mountains in Tibet. In the Tibetan language, Nyenchen means "big god" and Tanglha, "mountain on the highland." The name shows the kind of reverence Tibetans hold for the Nyenchen Tonglha with its peak towering to 7,162 m and being snow-capped all year round. To the northwest foot of the main range lies the Namco Lake -- the world's highest.
The Lake Namco, "heavenly lake" in the Tibetan language, is situated between Damxung County and Bange County, 240 km from Lhasa, capital of Tibet. The lake, covering an area of 1,940 sq km, lies at an altitude of 4,718 m and is the largest salt lake in Tibet and the second largest in China.
