Overseas documentary makers invited to Qinghai
16:06, November 10, 2009

Vice Qinghai Provincial Governor Jidi Mala has invited overseas documentary makers to attend the Second World Mountainous Region Documentary Festival to increase their understanding of Qinghai.

At a meeting held on November 6, Jidi Mala met with leading officials of the National Film Board of Canada, Australian International Documentary Conference and Screen Australia.

He briefed the guests on the unique geographical and cultural resources in Qinghai Province.

He said that Qinghai Province and Tibet Autonomous Region form the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau. With the headwaters of Yangtze, Yellow and Lancang rivers, Qinghai Province plays a vital role in the ecological environment in China and Asia as a whole.

Despite some common grounds, Qinghai differs from Tibet in geographical and cultural features. For instance, Qinghai has diverse topographic features, such as grasslands, snow-capped mountains, wetlands, permafrost regions, and deserts.

In addition, Qinghai has been inhabited by multi-ethnic groups since ancient times.

In recent years, the province has launched a series of events to develop its ecological economy and culture, in an effort to enable the world to know more about the region.

Jidi Mala added that since the world has a lot of mountainous regions inhibited by time-honored ethnic groups, it is of great significance to document the life of those groups.

Having heard the introduction by Jidi Mala, the guests from Canada and Australia praised Qinghai for its natural beauty and promised to establish a long-term cooperative relationship with Qinghai in shooting documentaries.
