(Xinhua Photo) To date, the Qinghai-Tibet Railway has carried 26 million passengers and 100 million tons of cargo since it opened to traffic on July 1, 2006. During the past three years of operation, measures have been taken to effectively protect the ecological environment along the railway. Following two years of effort, construction of the section from Xining (capital of Qinghai Province) to Golmud (western Qinghai), the second line of the railway, is set to be completed later this year.
