The Qinghai Provincial Government has spent 800 million yuan settling 16,000 households of nomadic Tibetans, according to the Qinghai Provincial Department of Agriculture and Animal Husbandry.
An official of the department said the government plans to pour six billion yuan to settle 560,000 nomadic herders in safe, energy-efficient, and environment-friendly houses in five years.
Vice Qinghai Provincial Governor Deng Bentai said that the natural conditions in Tibetan-inhabited areas in Qinghai are quite harsh, and now the province still has 134,000 unsettled households of Tibetan herders in 33 counties.
The provincial government will spare no effort to provide permanent housing to those herders, he added.
The Tibetan-inhabited area accounts for 97 percent of Qinghai's landmass, and the Tibetan make up nearly one third of the province's population.
