Lhasa, capital of Tibet, now has a pollution-free food production base covering 3.4 million sq m with an annual output value of 60 million yuan RMB, according to the city agriculture department.

An official of the Lhasa City Bureau of Agriculture and Animal Husbandry Bureau said that Lhasa is a latecomer in pollution-free food production, which has been developing rapidly in the last few years. The area of the production base has been expanded to 3.4 million this year from last year's 1.3 million sq m.

"With rapid economic development, people now care more about what they eat. They prefer environment-friendly, natural and healthy foodstuffs," he added.

He said pollution-free foods are popular among Lhasa citizens, but the output of such foods can hardly meet market demand due to the limited production area.
