Tibet cracks down on porn WAP sites

The Tibet Autonomous Region has decided to crack down on pornographic WAP (Wireless Application Protocol) sites from Nov. 20 to the end of December, according to Tibet's Public Security Department.

WAP sites can be accessed via a mobile phone.

Media coverage of the pornographic WAP sites prompted intense social reaction. In response to the call from the Ministry of Public Security, Tibet's Public Security Department held a special meeting on the crackdown on the porn WAP sites and decided to carry out the call in all seven prefectures of the region, according to Song Wenming, director of Network Security Inspection Division of Tibet's Public Security Department.

"The crackdown (on the porn WAP sites) is beneficial for purifying network environment and creating a healthy network space for the youngster," Song added.

People who have the information of porn WAP sites may access www.xzwj.gov.cn to leave tip-offs, according to the division.
