Lhalu Wetland Nature Reserve Administration founded in Lhasa

The Administration of Lhalu Wetland state-level Nature Reserve was officially set up in Lhasa on November 27 in a bid to further protect and manage Lhalu Wetland.

The Tibet regional government has kicked off an overall protection project on Lhalu Wetland in 1995 and the collection of materials on the basic situation of wetland, social,natural,geographical features and investigation work of the wetland have finished in 1997. On May 25, 1999, the Tibet local government set up the Lhalu Wetland Natural Reserve Area. At the end of 2004, it was listed as a national reserve.

"The replacement of Lhalu Wetland Management Office with Lhalu Wetland state-level Nature Reserve Administration will further strengthen its management, development and protection of Lhalu Wetland, " said Phurbu Tsering, director of Lhalu Wetland state-level Nature Reserve Administration.

As the highest wetland in the world with an average altitude of 3,645 meters, Lhalu Wetland has long drawn attention due to its rare position and important function on regulating climate,increasing oxygen and etc.
